La National Scholastic Surfing Association (NSSA) es la asociación de surfing de más prestigio en los Estados Unidos y es considerada como “Las Pequeñas Ligas de Surfing” en Estados Unidos. Fundada en 1978 por Tom Gibbons, John Rothrock, Chuck Allen, Laird Hayes, Holly Allen y Rob Hill.

La asociación se formó con el propósito de unir a los surfers aficionados de todo el país en una asociación competitiva vinculada al sistema educativo.

Dado que gran parte de la membresía consiste en estudiantes, uno de los requisitos previos para unirse a la asociación es el mantenimiento de buenas calificaciones, el servicio a la comunidad y el interés en el deporte del surfing. Desde su fundación, la filosofíadel programa National Scholastic Surfing Association ha sido que el atletismo y lo académico vayan de la mano. Más de 80 eventos NSSA se llevan a cabo a través de los Estados Unidos y culminan con los Campeonatos Nacionalesanuales, que se consideran los eventos de surf para jóvenes de más altoprestigio en los Estados Unidos. 

Actualmente, la NSSA opera en cuatro regiones: Costa Oeste, Costa Este, Hawaii y el Caribe.

Dentro de esas regiones hay 10 conferencias NSSA: Southwest, Gold Coast y Northwest en la región de la costa oesteConferenciasdel surestesureste/nortegolfo de Florida, Atlántico medio y noreste en la región de la costa esteconferencia de Hawaii en la región del Pacífico; y la conferencia de Puerto Rico en la región del Caribe. 

ABOUT THE NSSA PUERTO RICO CONFERENCE

The NSSA Puerto Rico Conference is registered non profit organization under the IRC 501c3 (IRS) and a Conference of the National Scholastic Surfing Association (NSSA), California USA, a non-profit organization whose mission is to encourage and assist its members in their interest to learn and develop the fundamentals and skills of surfing competition making sure that every junior competitor surfers stayed in school and educated themselves so that they could be successful in anything they chose to do, while competing in professionally structured, high quality events and Training Sessions, every season at the Ramey Area in Aguadilla giving the opportunity for all the young competitors from the Caribbean Basin fulfill their dreams of becoming a professional surfer.

No amateur surfer should think about going pro until he or she takes a crack at the NSSA Nationals as a major stepping stone to Pro-Hood and the message is very clear: Schoolbooks first, Surfboards second.

As part of our multilateral approach to aquatic sports with emphasizes on the same fundamentals to transfer the benefits of each discipline to the next. Sports disciplines like Water Polo (pool & ocean), Swimming, Junior Lifeguard and Learn to Surf programs emphasize on swim first then surf approach, practicing technique and paddling fundamentals a controlled environment  

Established in 2018 by Surf Coach Ernesto "Ernie" Alvarez, a veteran coach, waterman, competitor, environmental activist, trainer, educator, the NSSA Puerto Rico Conference promotes the qualities of good training, discipline, and competitive excellence while supporting the merits of academic achievement to young surfers, providing a fun and safe surfing experience for all of its members
