Coach Ernie Alvarez


The NSSA Puerto Rico is a Conference of the National Scholastic Surfing Association (NSSA), California USA, and non-profit organization whose mission is to encourage and assist its members in their interest to learn and develop the fundamentals and skills of surfing competition making sure Puerto Rico’s youth surfers stayed in school and educated themselves so that they could be successful in anything they chose to do, while competing in professionally structured, high quality events and Training Sessions, helping the youth of the Islands and of all the Caribbean Basin to fulfill their dreams of becoming a professional surfer.No amateur surfer should think about going pro until he or she takes a crack at the NSSA Nationals as a major stepping stone to Pro-Hood and the message is very clear: Schoolbooks first, Surfboards second.

Established in 2018 by Surf Coach Ernesto "Ernie" Alvarez, a veteran coach, waterman, competitor, environmental activist, trainer, educator,  the NSSA Puerto Rico promotes the qualities of good training, discipline, and competitive excellence while supporting the merits of academic achievement to young surfers, providing a fun and safe surfing experience for all of its members.
